Knoydart Lite: a shoulder-season expedition

Overview

A four-day expedition into Knoydart — Britain's last great wilderness peninsula — timed for the shoulder season when the country is at its quietest and most rewarding. You'll walk from Glenfinnan to Inverie, crossing rolling moorland, deep glacial valleys, and the salt-kissed shores of Loch Nevis to reach a coastal village connected to the mainland only by mountain paths and sea.

This is our gentler take on Knoydart — slightly shorter days than the full expedition, but no less wild. Guided throughout by experienced Mountain Leaders, the trip is built to sharpen your backcountry skills, settle you into the rhythm of self-supported travel, and deliver the kind of stillness only this corner of Scotland offers. And the same pint at the end of it.

Who it's for

The trip suits walkers ready to step up to multi-day, self-supported travel — and looking for a shoulder-season window to do it. You'll need solid fitness for long days under load, but the pace is steady and the days are shorter than our full Knoydart expedition. If you want a proper expedition with the rough edges smoothed slightly, this is the trip. You'll finish fitter, more confident in wild camping, and with one of the great Scottish walks behind you.

What you can expect

  • Four days carrying your kit across the Knoydart peninsula
  • Wild camps near A'Chuil and Sourlies bothies — two of the great quiet spots in Scotland
  • A coastal finish at Inverie, with a pint at The Old Forge — mainland Britain's most isolated pub
  • A pre-trip Google Meet a week before departure — check-in, Q&A, and a final chance to ask anything before you set off
  • A small group led by Mountain Leaders who know the West Highlands properly.
