Get to grips with real rock

Guided climbing and abseiling adventures across the UK, led by qualified instructors

There's a particular kind of satisfaction that comes from pulling yourself up a real rock face. It's physical, absorbing and oddly calming once you get into it. With the right guide alongside you, it's also far more achievable than most people expect.

GBAC connects you with qualified climbing instructors and mountain professionals who know the UK's best locations for outdoor climbing and abseiling. Whether you're trying it for the first time or building on a few sessions of experience, the adventures listed here are designed around where you actually are, not where a brochure assumes you should be.

Sessions take place on natural rock across a range of UK landscapes, from moorland granite tors and gritstone edges to mountain crags and coastal cliffs. Each experience page gives you the full picture: terrain, grade, what the day involves and what to bring.

What does a guided session involve?

Your guide will brief you fully before you go anywhere near the rock. That covers gear fitting, movement technique, communication signals and a clear walk through of the session ahead. You move at a pace that works for you, and your guide stays within reach throughout.

All technical equipment is included as standard: harnesses, helmets and ropes. You'll need comfortable, close-fitting clothing and footwear with good ankle support. A full kit list is included on each experience page.

Do I need experience?

Most sessions here are open to complete beginners. Where prior experience is required, we say so clearly on the trip page. If you're unsure whether a particular adventure is right for you, drop us a message and we'll point you in the right direction.
