Starting your journey at Okehampton Rail Station is convenient, whether you're traveling by train, car, or air. Here's how to make your trip seamless:

By Train: Okehampton is well-connected by rail through Exeter, providing easy access from various locations across the UK.

By Car: If you're driving, Okehampton is approximately a 45-minute journey from Exeter Airport or about a two-hour drive from Bristol.

By Air: You have the option to fly into either Bristol or Exeter airports. From there, you can rent a car or use local transportation to reach your destination. For a stress-free morning meet-up, we recommend arriving the night before. Okehampton offers a range of accommodations, from charming B&Bs to comfortable hotels.

Getting home from Ivybridge

This is a point-to-point crossing, so you finish about 40 miles by road from where you started. Ivybridge station is on the main Plymouth to Exeter line, so if you came by train you simply get on one going the other way.

If you've driven, the group usually shares a taxi back to Okehampton, or one of you leaves a car at Ivybridge beforehand and you drive back together. We'll arrange whichever suits when you book.

The night is spent wild camping on open moorland, within the areas of Dartmoor where backpack camping is permitted. Your guide plans the camp against the National Park's current permitted camping map, so you don't have to — and you'll learn how to read it while you're out there.

You bring your own tent and sleeping kit, or add the GBAC gear bundle at checkout for £45.

You're responsible for your own food across the two days: lunch on both days, an evening meal at camp on Day 1, breakfast on Day 2, and snacks for the route. You'll need your own stove and cooking kit — a lightweight stove, fuel, a pot, a mug and something to eat with. Lightweight and rehydratable works best.

There's no shop or pub on this route, so carry everything from the start.

This is a two-day crossing of Dartmoor, around 47km from Okehampton to Ivybridge, with one night wild camping on the open moor. You carry everything you need and there is no resupply point on the route, so pack weight matters. A full kit list is sent on booking — here are the essentials to plan around.

Shelter and sleep system

• A suitable tent: a four-season, lightweight one-person shelter is best
• A sleeping bag or quilt rated down to at least −5°C
• A sleeping pad rated to at least R-value 4

Clothing and footwear

• Walking boots, well broken in — not fresh out of the box
• Gaiters — optional, but you will be glad of them on the moor
• Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers
• Warm mid-layer, fleece or insulated jacket
• Moisture-wicking base layers
• Warm hat and gloves, even in summer conditions
• Sunglasses and a sun hat
• Spare dry socks
• Camp shoes or sandals — optional, but very welcome at the end of the day

Backpack

• Hiking rucksack with rain cover, 55-65 litres
• Waterproof rucksack liner or dry bags — your sleeping kit needs to stay dry
• Sitting pad — optional, but it keeps you dry at breaks

Food and drink

• Food for two days: lunch on both days, an evening meal at camp, breakfast on Day 2, and snacks for the route
• Lightweight stove, fuel and a lighter
• Pot, mug and a spork
• At least 2 litres water carrying capacity
• A filter or purification tablets — moorland water needs treating

Safety and essentials

• OS Explorer OL28 (Dartmoor) and a compass
• Headtorch with spare batteries
• Personal first aid kit — your guide carries a group kit, but bring your own for blisters and small scrapes
• Foil survival blanket

• Personal medication — your guide will ask for any relevant medical information before departure

Your guide will be in touch well in advance of your trip with kit recommendations and suggested places to buy, to help you get the best deals on everything you need.

This is a full crossing of Dartmoor on foot: 47km over two days, which works out at roughly 23 to 24km each day over uneven moorland, carrying everything you need for a night out. It's a real distance, and the ground underfoot does more of the work than the ascent does — tussock, bog and river crossings rather than big climbs.

You should be comfortable walking that sort of distance on consecutive days with a loaded pack. Expect to carry 12 to 18kg depending on your kit choices. No previous wild camping experience is needed — your guide covers campcraft as you go — but you should be happy on open moorland in whatever weather turns up, and prepared for at least one wet crossing.

Please arrive with the equipment listed in the kit section. If you're unsure about anything, get in touch — we're happy to help. In the interest of safety, we reserve the right to refuse participation to anyone who arrives unprepared.

Outdoor adventure carries inherent risks. We strongly recommend all participants take out appropriate personal travel and accident insurance before their trip.

All participants must be 18 or over. No pets are permitted on our trips.

Cancellations and Refunds

You may cancel your booking at any time by notifying us in writing.

Refunds will be issued as follows:

• 90% refund for cancellations made more than 60 days before the Experience start date.
• 50% refund for cancellations made between 30 and 60 days before the Experience start date.
• No refund for cancellations made less than 30 days before the Experience start date.

No refunds will be issued for failure to attend or late arrivals.

Introduction

GB Adventure Club Ltd, trading as The Great British Adventure Club (“GBAC”, “we”, “us”, “our”), acts as an intermediary platform connecting customers (“you”, “your”) with third-party providers of trips, guided walks, and wild camping experiences (the “Experiences”). GBAC does not own, operate, or control any of the Experiences listed on our platform.

Booking and Payment

All bookings must be made through the GBAC website or authorised channels. Full payment is required at the time of booking. Your booking is only confirmed once full payment has been received and you have received a confirmation email from us.

Role of GBAC

GBAC acts solely as an agent for third-party providers of Experiences. The contract for the provision of the Experience is between you and the relevant third-party provider. GBAC is not responsible for the delivery, quality, safety, legality, or any aspect of the Experience provided by third parties.

Cancellations and Refunds

You may cancel your booking at any time by notifying us in writing. Refunds: 90% if cancelled more than 60 days before start; 50% if 30–60 days before; no refund if less than 30 days before. No refunds for failure to attend or late arrivals.

Changes and Cancellations by Providers

Third-party providers reserve the right to alter or cancel Experiences due to weather, safety, or other circumstances beyond their control. In the event of cancellation by the provider, you will be offered a suitable alternative or a full refund. Trips may be cancelled if insufficient bookings have been made; in this event you will be offered a similar trip of similar value or a full refund. GBAC is not liable for any additional costs incurred due to such changes or cancellations.

Participant Responsibilities

You are responsible for ensuring you are physically and mentally fit to participate in the Experience. You must comply with all instructions and safety guidelines provided by the third-party provider. You are responsible for bringing appropriate equipment, clothing, and supplies as specified in the Experience description.

Liability

Participation in Experiences involves inherent risks. By booking, you acknowledge and accept these risks. GBAC accepts no liability for injury, loss, damage, or expenses incurred as a result of your participation in any Experience, except where required by law. Any claims or complaints regarding the Experience should be directed to the third-party provider.

Insurance

We strongly recommend you obtain suitable travel, health, and personal accident insurance before participating in any Experience.

Data Protection

We will process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.

Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. By booking an Experience with GBAC, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions.

Group size — 4 maximum, so the pace stays flexible and everyone gets proper time with the guide.

Firing ranges — the northern moor sits inside the MOD's Okehampton range, which closes when there's live firing. The programme is published in advance; your guide checks it when planning and again before you set off, and routes around anything active.

Weather — Dartmoor's conditions change fast at any time of year. Your guide monitors them and adjusts the route where necessary. If the trip can't safely go ahead, you'll be contacted as early as possible and offered an alternative date or a full refund.

Wild swimming — there are rivers along the route. Swimming is entirely at your own risk.
