Dartmoor Beginner Wild Camping Experience (Gear Included)

Overview

Dartmoor National Park, 368 square kilometres of open moorland in the heart of Devon, is one of the few places in England with a real tradition of wild camping, and this 24-hour course is built to introduce it properly. Running from midday to midday, it's designed specifically for beginners and anyone looking to build the skills and confidence for independent, responsible camping on the high moor. And to make it as easy on beginners as possible, a top-quality tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, liner and pillow are included for the duration of the adventure.

The course opens with an in-depth gear check and rucksack packing session, so you carry your load efficiently from the start. From there you'll head out onto the moor for an afternoon walk to a discreet camp spot, learning basic navigation and the Leave No Trace principles that keep Dartmoor's landscape intact. Evening brings campcraft: pitching a lightweight tent, cooking on a portable stove, and a proper look at weather awareness and the unofficial code of conduct for wild camping in the UK. The following morning covers an efficient pack-up-and-move-on routine, finishing with a navigation-focused hike back to the start.

This course is for complete beginners and for walkers looking to extend their adventures to include wild camping. You don't need any prior experience, just a reasonable level of fitness for short days on the moor. By the end you'll have the skills and confidence to camp independently, whether that's solo or on one of our guided trips.
