Blencathra via Sharp Edge Guided Walk

Overview

Blencathra is one of the Lake District’s most distinctive mountains, rising above the northern fells with a series of dramatic ridges, broad shoulders and sweeping views across Cumbria. This guided walk takes on its most famous route: Sharp Edge.

Sharp Edge is one of the classic ridge walks of the Lake District. Narrow, exposed and exciting, it offers a true mountain experience and a memorable way to reach the summit of Blencathra. Because of the nature of the route, this trip is run as a small-group adventure with a maximum of four participants.

Starting near Mungrisdale, we make our way into the quiet eastern side of Blencathra before ascending towards Scales Tarn and the start of Sharp Edge. From here, your qualified Mountain Leader will manage the route carefully, supporting the group as we move across the ridge and continue towards the summit.

At 868 metres, Blencathra offers outstanding views across the Lake District, the Eden Valley and the surrounding northern fells. After reaching the summit, we descend by a suitable route back towards Mungrisdale, completing one of the finest mountain journeys in the Lake District.

This is a challenging full-day mountain walk suitable for fit walkers who are comfortable on steep, rocky and exposed terrain. Route choice remains at the guide’s discretion and may be adjusted if weather, ground conditions or safety considerations make Sharp Edge unsuitable on the day.
